What to know before you register

When you search, we ask the registry responsible for that extension whether the name is taken, at that moment. A name shown as available really is available — subject to the ordinary race that somebody else may register it in the minutes between you looking and you paying. Nothing is reserved by searching.

Suggestions only cover extensions we can actually sell

If the name you wanted is gone, we suggest alternatives — different wordings and different extensions. Those suggestions are filtered to what we can genuinely put in your cart, so you will not be shown a tempting name on an extension that turns out to be unavailable to buy here. We would rather offer a shorter list that works.

The renewal price is not the registration price

This is the part worth reading twice. Registration and renewal are priced separately, and for many extensions renewal costs more. A .com registers at $12.50 and renews at $15.50, and transferring one in costs $9.50. Introductory first-year pricing on the cheaper extensions — some start from $5.59 — can be several times lower than what the name costs to keep from year two onward. Check the renewal figure before you commit to a name you intend to keep.

Transfers are welcome, and usually free-ish

Bringing an existing domain over is a transfer rather than a new registration, and it is priced separately again. A transfer normally adds a year to the registration rather than restarting it, so you are not paying twice for the same period. You will need the domain unlocked at your current registrar and the authorisation code they issue you.

Registering here means the domain and the hosting sit in the same account, with one invoice and one place to fix things when DNS misbehaves. If you would rather leave the domain where it is, that is entirely fine — point its nameservers at us and everything works the same way.Ask support and we will tell you exactly which records to change.
