SSL Certificates

Certificates, installed by people who answer.

Every OIS hosting plan already includes a free SSL certificate. When you need more than that — a wildcard across your subdomains, or a certificate issued to your business — you can buy one here, and we will put it in place for you.

Certificates we sell

Two options, because two cover almost everything. If neither fits, ask us.

Basic SSL

$55

A certificate for a single domain name. The right choice when you need a certificate issued to your business for one site, rather than the free one that comes with hosting.

MOST COVERAGE

Wildcard SSL

$299

One certificate covering a domain and all of its subdomains — shop, mail, app, staging and any you add later — instead of buying and renewing one certificate per subdomain.

Do you actually need to buy one?

Often not — and we would rather say so than sell you a certificate you already have.

You have a lot of subdomains

A wildcard certificate covers every subdomain of a domain at once. If you are running app, shop, mail and staging on the same domain, that is one certificate and one renewal instead of four.

You need the certificate issued to your business

The free certificates included with hosting validate that you control the domain. A purchased certificate can carry your organisation details, which some customers, partners and compliance reviews ask to see.

You are hosted somewhere else

You do not have to host with us to buy a certificate from us. If your site lives elsewhere, we will issue the certificate and give you the files to install.

If you are on OIS sharedor WordPress hosting, HTTPS is already on and renewing itself. You only need this page if one of the cases above applies to you.

Why HTTPS is not optional any more

Browsers mark you insecure

Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge all flag pages served over plain HTTP, and show a warning on any page that asks for a password or card number. Visitors see that before they see your site.

Search engines expect it

HTTPS is a ranking signal, and it is a prerequisite for the modern protocols that make a site fast. We wrote up what it does and does not do for your ranking.

Payments require it

If you handle card data, encrypting it in transit is a PCI DSS requirement, not a recommendation. Our hosting is built for PCI-driven companies for the same reason.
